The Big Read Essay Contest

As part of its contribution to the Big Read, the Department of English is sponsoring an essay contest open to all Washington University undergraduates for an essay of approximately 3,000 words on the theme "Burning to Read". The essay may concern itself with the history of reading or of specific books, with the love of reading or with the desire to burn, ban or censor books. The essay should be submitted by March 1, 2007. There will be a prize of $2,000.

Professor and chair David Lawton spoke at the Assembly Series on the topic, "Burning to Read." Follow this link to hear the audio from his lecture.
